India's Reliance to Kick Start 3G Services

Indian telecom operator Reliance Communications declared that the company will invest US$1 billion to push its 3G services, the Economic Times of India reported on December 23. It is learnt that the company will offer 3G services on its existing GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) network, which is due to be launched shortly. The GSM network trials are currently underway in Mumbai and a pan-India rollout is set to complete by June 2009, according to the same source. Meanwhile, the company has been in talks with other companies about forming a strategic alliance, whereby helps Reliance to accelerate 3G service rollout.
